S1 E2: Branded.

Updated: Oct 4, 2019

I want to thank you all for the love, amazing comments and just overall the awesome feedback shared on my very first podcast episode!

I am glad you all were fed, and learned something to apply to your daily lives! That truly blessed me! So….guess I have to keep it coming huh?

I want to keep these short, sweet and to the point so that you can get a good Word, and add these podcasts easily into to the start, middle or end your day.

Today, we’re going to be talking about being “Branded”. Not your logo, your cute little style board or your website. What I am talking about is being Branded....aka being CALLED! Being CHOSEN! And we’re going to take this to The Word—that’s the only way I know how to do it.

Many of us know the story of David. But for those who do not know (or need to be reminded), let me bring you up to speed.

Let me just tell y'all my interpretation of the Word is always ghetto...so just forgive the extra commentary:

  • A woman named Hannah prayed to God for a son.

  • She said, “God if you give me a son—I’ll give him back to you!”

  • The Lord heard her prayer and blessed her with this son.

  • She called him Samuel which means “Asked of God”.

  • Samuel grew up...he was a good man!

  • He was a good Judge…

  • And he even made his sons Judges in Israel.

  • But Samuel’s sons didn’t do it like him! I interpret that they were lazy—they weren’t doing right...just straight bustas! But that’s just me...

  • The people weren’t liking how things were going.

  • They came to Samuel and were like, “look—just like all the other lands, we need a King man! And these raggedy sons of yours just ain’t doing it for us!”

  • Samuel was sad….we was like, “man dang!”

  • He wanted to convince the people that they did not need a king.

  • But the people wouldn’t let up on that.

  • So Samuel chose a king named Saul...he was young...he was tall….tall dark and handsome (let’s just say that).

  • Samuel brought Saul back to the people and said, "look at the man whom the Lord has chosen! There is not another like him among all the people!"

  • The people started chanting “long live the king!”

  • So Saul was king and then started to write the laws.

  • So let’s fast forward.

  • There were some people who weren’t all that impress with this Saul.

  • They were like, “who is this dude?”

  • And also in his rulings Saul didn’t follow some rules placed by God.

  • So Samuel had to come to him and let him know, “man, you didn’t follow the rules of God, and all this one day will be stripped from you and a new king will rule.”

  • Samuel being the good man he was felt horrible...like “here is the man I vouched for, and I had to give him this bad news?”

  • But God came and told Samuel, “don’t cry over this because I’m over here working! Go to Bethlehem and find this man named Jesse—he got a son that I have chosen as king!”

  • Samuel was like “God how am I going to come back and tell Saul we got this new dude ready to be king? Saul is going to kill me!”

  • But the Lord said. “Don’t worry about all that! Listen….Take this young cow with you; and tell the people that you have come to make an offering to the Lord. I’ll tell you everything you need to know!”

  • So he gets there….they’re starting this service and all this stuff! And Samuel is looking at Jesse’s oldest son Eliab...he was tall...noble-looking...so in his head (I’m making this up, Samuel was like “yep this him.”)

  • But God said, “do not look on his face, nor on the height of his body. Man judges by the outward looks, but God looks at the heart."

  • Then the next brother comes.

  • God says no….

  • Then the next brother comes.

  • God says no….

  • Until we’ve gone through 7 brothers….

  • Ohhhh…...but there is an 8th brother ya’ll!

  • So Samuel standing there is like “is there anyone else, because “eek” God ain’t choose none of them!”

  • And Jesse’s like, “I mean I got a young son out there in the field herding sheep...but uhhhh I don’t think that’s who you’re looking for!”

  • But Samuel insists, “bring him to me!”

  • And enters David ya’ll!

  • Smelly ol little sheeping herding David!

  • And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is the one whom I have chosen.”

  • Samuel anointed him in the presence of his brothers. HE WAS BRANDED.

  • But no one knew at that time the anointing to mean that David was to be the king.

  • David returned to the field to do as he had always done...

  • From that time the Spirit of God came upon David, and he began to show signs of coming greatness.

  • He looked over the sheep with greatness!

  • Sounds like such a small irrelevant task right?

  • But during that time he grew closer to God!

  • He talked to God!

  • He walked with God!

  • He grew stronger.

  • He grew braver!

  • He killed lions and bears!!!

  • Oh God was grooming him ya’ll!

  • He practiced throwing stones!

  • Until he could strike exactly the place for which he aimed.

  • Oh God was grooming him ya’ll!

  • And while he was in this stinky field not knowing that God has already ordered his steps he prayed:

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;

He leadeth me beside the still waters,

He restoreth my soul;

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;

Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

So I come to tell you friends! You are BRANDED! God is telling your Samuel:

  • Do not look at her talent

  • Do not look at her following on Instagram

  • Do not look at her the car she drives

  • Do not look at the house she owns

  • Do not look at the clothes she wear

For I have anointed her! And she will RULE! It’s in his word! So your challenge TODAY people…..

What are you going to do while you’re in the field?

Are you going to complain?

Are you going to compare?

Are you going to talk with God?

Walk with God?

Allow him to work in you...preparing you for what he has already called as yours?!?!?

Oh if only you knew! You’re branded!!!!!!

Be like David ya’ll!
