Off Task: When You’re Doing Everything But What God Called You To Do



Let’s get to it:


If you’ve got energy for everything except your assignment—you’re off task.


You’re all up in the algorithm but nowhere in your Word. Keeping tabs on other people’s calling—but haven’t touched yours in months.


We’ve made a habit of giving our best energy……to everything but what God actually asked us to do.


The Distraction GOTTA GO


The enemy’s not always trying to make you sin.


Sometimes he’s just trying to make you scroll.


Because if he can keep you plugged into the wrong thing, he knows you won’t have time, space, or clarity to step into the right thing.


And that’s exactly what I’ve been seeing lately…


People deep in B. Simone’s wardrobe during prayer.


Following every update on the New Orleans inmate escape like they’re on payroll.


Breaking down the Diddy case like they passed the bar.


Meanwhile?


The enemy’s in the corner silently celebrating—because you’re off task.


You’re distracted.

You’re not building.

You’re not healing.

You’re not becoming.

You're just busy.


Busy doing everything BUT what you've been called to.


Delay Is Just a Dressed-Up No


Let’s be real.


You keep saying,“I’m waiting on confirmation.”


“I’m waiting for peace.”


“I’m just not ready yet.”


But all you’re really doing is stalling.


And delay—when God already spoke—is just a dressed-up no.


Luke 9:62 says:

“No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

You don’t need another word. You need to move on the one you already have.


What’s Keeping You Off Task?


Ask yourself:


  • What’s taking up most of your energy right now?

  • Where are you emotionally invested that has nothing to do with your calling?

  • What’s distracting you from what God has already asked you to build?


And then ask:


“What would my life look like if I gave all that energy… back to my assignment?”


Because right now—You’re doing deep dives on timelines you weren’t called to.


You’re the main character in comment sections.


You’re putting in work—but not for your purpose.


I’m Not Innocent Either


I’ve done this.


I’ve let noise override my assignment.


I’ve let fear, trends, and timing be my excuse.


I’ve cared more about what people thought of my walk than what God told me to do in it.


But once you know better…You have to do better.


So I’m passing this word to you now.


Let This Be A Gut Check


The next time you have the time to dissect someone’s post (or purpose as they see it)…


Pause and ask:


“Could this energy be better spent on my assignment?”


And if you don’t know what your assignment is—“Could this time be spent in the Word… in prayer… asking God to show me what it is?”


Because one thing I can tell you with full confidence:


You are not the calling police.


And spiritual spectatorship isn’t the assignment.
