Sinners? Should Christians Watch or Skip?

I was really gonna sit this one out... but honestly, Sinners has my brain spinning so much — I couldn't go into the week without dropping my perspective. So here goes:
First, let me say this clearly: I might have a very different take from a lot of Christian creators, communities, and leaders you may follow.
I do not lean toward the whole:
"Christians shouldn't watch this movie."
Because listen — with the right discernment, you can watch Sinners and walk away with the number one thing I saw:
This film isn't just about "religion" — it's about injustice.
Injustice economically.
Injustice culturally.
Injustice creatively.
Injustice spiritually.
This movie goes way deeper than "demonic spirits" and "witchcraft." It paints the real complexities of what we as Black people have faced (and still face) in this country.
Stolen identities.
Oppression in the name of God.
A strength many admire but constantly try to appropriate.
Now about discernment for a sec:
Discernment doesn’t mean avoidance — it means the ability to judge well. And if watching Sinners would compromise your personal judgment? That's a different conversation altogether.
But for many of us?
Sinners is an artistic expression of the Black experience. A tribute to our roots, our brilliance, and the undeniable power God placed within us.
And the deeper you go, the more you see micro-lessons woven throughout:
Guard your gifts.
Protect your community.
Defend your walk with Christ.
Overcome the schemes.
Because here’s the truth: There are systems and schemes out here moving like literal darkness — just like the vampires in the film — draining, stealing, and feeding off our brilliance just to survive.
We're talking about:
Redlining – Blocking us from building wealth through home ownership.
Sharecropping – Keeping freedom out of reach after slavery "ended."
Employment Discrimination – Doors slammed shut simply because of skin color.
Banking Discrimination – Charging more, lending less.
Gentrification – Pushing us out of our own neighborhoods.
Black Wall Street Massacres – Destroying what we built when it thrived.
School-to-Prison Pipeline – Setting up our kids to fail before they even start.
Environmental Racism – Toxic waste and bad water in our backyards.
Voter Suppression – Fighting every vote like it’s a war.
Gerrymandering – Redrawing the lines to silence our voice.
Medical Experimentation – Treating our bodies like test subjects.
Mass Incarceration – Turning Black pain into profit.
Police Brutality & Racial Profiling – Criminalized for simply existing.
Whitewashing – Erasing our stories, stealing our culture.
Slave Bible – Twisting the Word of God to justify oppression.
(oh, and that ain't even the whole list......................)
A scheme.
Always been a scheme.
Will always be a scheme.
The perfect toxic mix of sin, systems, and Satan himself.
So instead of rushing to say, "Don't watch it," maybe the better question is:
What is it trying to wake up in us?
Because Sinners isn’t just about the presence of evil — it’s about the refusal to let evil dim our light.
The lessons are there:
Economics.
Community.
Survival.
Legacy.
Redemption.
Faith.
Hope.
Love.
Oh, and that juke joint scene? Had me in full-blown proud, weepy tears.
9.5/10 — highly recommend.
Go watch it.
Now.
So good! There were so many gems, I have to go watch it a second time!!!
